Rowan University’s Wind Ensemble presents an eclectic program that celebrates the intercultural exchange of music and art. Under the direction of Joseph Higgins and presented as part of the Music Department’s “Music of Social Justice” series, El Muro: the Walls that Divide Us, the Music that Brings Us Together" which features several guest artists and new works.
Faculty member and noted jazz artist Denis DiBlasio is represented with a composition inspired by the poetry of Maya Angelou. The evening also welcomes composer Ricardo Lorenz, whose El Muro (“The Wall”) is part of the program and gives the concert its title. Composer Nicole Piunno also is on hand for the ensemble’s premiere of her piece, Autumn Air. Rounding out the concert is faculty member Rie Suzuki performing Jonathan Leshnoff's new concerto for clarinet and winds, which was commissioned in part by Dr. Joseph Higgins and the Wind Ensemble.
